At Alto, we want to ensure our driver platform remains accurate, secure, and occupied by active team members. This policy outlines the minimum hours required to maintain your employment status and explains the specific actions that constitute job abandonment.
The 4-Hour Minimum Requirement
To remain an active employee in Alto's system and stay eligible to view and pick up shifts, all drivers must fulfill a baseline activity requirement:
- The Minimum: You are required to work a minimum of 4 hours every 30 days.
- What Counts: Any actual worked shift time counts toward this requirement. As long as you accumulate at least 4 total hours within a rolling 30-day window, your profile will remain fully active.
Part-Time & Pickup-Only Drivers
We completely support drivers who prefer a highly flexible, part-time schedule.
- Setting Availability: If you want to operate strictly on a pickup-shift-only basis, you may set your standard availability to 0 hours and manually select open shifts when they become available.
- The Active Rule: Operating as a pickup-only driver does not exempt you from the activity requirement. You must still log at least 4 hours of shift time every 30 days to keep your platform access open.
Understanding Job Abandonment
Failing to meet the baseline hourly requirement or failing to report for scheduled shifts directly impacts your employment status. Alto classifies job abandonment by either of the following triggers:
- Inactivity: You do not work at least 4 hours within a 30-day period (without an officially approved Leave of Absence on file).
- Consecutive No Call No Shows: You have two (2) No Call No Shows (NCNS) in a row for your scheduled shifts.
Policy Enforcement: If either trigger occurs, Alto will process the situation as a voluntary resignation via job abandonment.
Job abandonment results in:
- Official separation from employment.
- Immediate removal of your access to the Alto driver platform and internal communication tools.
Life Events, Emergencies, & Approved Time Away
We understand that personal emergencies, medical situations, or major life events can temporarily take you away from the road. If you experience a circumstance that prevents you from meeting the 4-hour monthly minimum or reporting to a scheduled shift, you must communicate with the team immediately to protect your status.
- Action Required: You must submit a formal Leave of Absence (LOA) request as soon as you anticipate an extended period of inactivity.
- The Benefit: An approved leave of absence safely pauses your 30-day activity tracker. This protects your employment status and ensures your driver profile remains intact until you are ready to return to work.
