Purpose
At Alto, Safety is Our Constant. This policy ensures all drivers and team members understand and follow safe driving standards to protect themselves, passengers, and others on the road.
Scope
This policy applies to all Alto employees who operate, move, or work around company vehicles in any market. It covers all on-duty activities involving Alto vehicles.
Driver Responsibilities
Drivers must always:
Maintain valid credentials: Keep an active driverβs license and a clean driving record free from preventable accidents or serious violations.
Communicate proactively: Report issues to local depot staff before driving and contact Driver Support via Zello during shifts if concerns arise.
Obey all traffic laws: Follow all posted signs, signals, and local regulations at all times.
Wear seat belts: Ensure all occupants are properly restrained before driving.
Drive free from impairment: Never operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs (including prescriptions that impair driving), fatigue, or any condition affecting alertness. Notify HR or a supervisor if you have a medical condition impacting safe driving.
Adjust to conditions: Reduce speed and use extra caution during rain, fog, heavy traffic, or reduced visibility.
Practice defensive driving: Avoid harsh braking, unsafe acceleration, or aggressive maneuvers.
Deliver a smooth, safe ride: Maintain a calm, passenger-focused driving style.
β οΈ Unsafe driving behaviors or violations may be detected by telematics and could result in corrective action or termination.
Vehicle Accidents and Damage
If an accident occurs while on shift:
Call 911 immediately if anyone is injured.
Notify Driver Support right away via Zello or phone.
Collect and document third-party information and take multiple photos of all damage and the scene.
Report all vehicle damage to your Shift Lead or Management before your shift ends.
Report any citations or tickets received while on shift.
Driver Support will guide you through the process step-by-step.
Driver Citations
Immediate Reporting: All citations (tickets) must be reported to a Shift Lead or Manager before the end of your shift.
Fines: Drivers are responsible for paying fines, except in cases related to vehicle maintenance issues.
MVR Compliance: Employment may be affected if a driver no longer meets insurance or Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) requirements.
Telematics and Device Policy
Alto vehicles are equipped with telematics and camera systems that monitor safety performance, detect unsafe behaviors, and support training and recognition programs.
π« Strictly Prohibited While Driving:
Personal cell phone use
Smartwatches
Removing the Alto Driver phone from its dashboard mount
Any use of personal electronic devices while the vehicle is in motion may result in immediate termination.
Driver Safety Score
Each driver is assigned a Safety Score (0β100) based on telematics data collected during shifts.
Scoring Details:
All drivers start with a score of 100.
Points are deducted for safety events and added for safe miles driven.
Drivers must maintain a minimum score of 80 at all times.
Performance & Disciplinary Actions

| Below 60 | Final Written Warning (advances 3 levels in progression) |
Warnings remain active for 6 months. Continued low scores or repeat violations may result in termination.
β οΈ The company may bypass progressive discipline for severe or repeated safety violations.
Recognition and Incentives
Drivers demonstrating consistent safe driving behavior are eligible for recognition programs, including the Safety Bonus Lottery and other incentives based on telematics data.
