Attendance & Punctuality Policy
Effective Date: August 25, 2025
Applies To: All Drivers
Purpose
Punctuality and reliable attendance are key to keeping Alto running smoothly and ensuring excellent customer service. Every driver plays an important role in providing dependable coverage for scheduled rides.
Expectations
Drivers are expected to:
Report to work on time and ready to start their scheduled shift.
Remain at work for their entire shift unless excused by a manager.
Notify a supervisor immediately if they must leave early or cannot complete a shift.
Drop shifts in the Driver Portal if unable to work.
Once schedules are posted, all assigned shifts are your responsibility.
There is no penalty for dropping a shift more than 48 hours before the scheduled start time.
Grace Period & Tardiness
A 4-minute grace period is allowed after your scheduled start time.
Clocking in after this window or leaving early without approval is considered tardiness and may result in attendance points or corrective action.
Excused vs. Unexcused Absences
Excused Absence – When time off is requested properly and/or supported by documentation (submitted via the Driver Portal or emailed to HR within 72 hours of returning to work).
Examples include:
Approved time off
Jury duty
Military leave
Approved leave of absence (FMLA, personal leave, etc.)
Treatment for a job-related injury
Company-approved staffing reduction
Bereavement leave (CA only)
Unexcused Absence – Any absence or deviation from your schedule not requested or approved in advance.
Attendance Points System
Attendance points are tracked on a rolling 3-month period:
| Violation | Points |
|---|---|
| Dropped shift 48–12 hours before start | 1 |
| Dropped shift less than 12 hours before start | 2 |
| Late by 5–14 minutes | 1 |
| Late by 15 minutes–2 hours | 2 |
| No show or 2+ hours late | 5 |
Progressive Discipline
| Total Points | Action |
|---|---|
| 4 Points | Verbal warning |
| 8 Points | Written warning |
| 10 Points | Final written warning |
| 12+ Points | Termination of employment |
Note: Alto may bypass progressive steps for excessive or repeated violations.
Job Abandonment
A driver may be considered to have voluntarily terminated employment if they:
Fail to report to work for two or more consecutive days without notifying a supervisor, or
Are on “pick-up shift only” status and do not work at least one 4-hour shift every 30 days.
Important Notes
This policy does not apply to absences protected under FMLA or ADA.
Documentation for excused absences must be submitted within 72 hours of returning to work.
Alto reserves the right to impose additional discipline or termination for excessive or intentional violations.
